Angela and myself went to an Italian evening at The Quarterhouse for the Folkestone Book Festival, we met Alessandro Gallenzi, Franca Simpson, Claudia Roden and Lennox Morrison.

Alessandro has written this book that particularly caught my eye called Best Seller, which is about an author trying to get published which I am sure many of us can identify with.  He also translates books and has his own publishing house called Alma Books.  A very interesting man who had actually heard of Karen’s World!  Got to say that made my night lets hope he will want to publish my book when he has read it.

Franca Simpson set up her own publishing house in Folkestone called Calisi Press as she really wanted to publish this book, My Mother is a River.  I bought the book and it sounds very good so I am looking forward to reading that next.  Franca also does a lot of translating in the book industry and you can see her site at:

Claudia Roden was talking about her journeys all over Italy collecting various recipes from the different villages.  Such a vast knowledge of all the different types of cooking that is done all over Italy.  She has a cookery book out that is wonderful and i didn’t take a picture of it but you can find it on Amazon.

Follies did a fabulous spread for everyone including pizza and the evening was a huge success. It has been a great festival with lots of wonderful talks and interesting people.  Well done Folkestone once again.

  1. Yes, well done Folkstone. You seem to be very well catered for with the arts down there. Mind you, you also seem to be pretty well catered for with restaurants, cafes and places that serve that strange beverage alcohol.
It seems to work well that they entertain you and then you entertain us.
