NATIONAL BOOK LOVERS DAY

What is there not to like about a good book you can lose yourself in what ever the weather or where ever you are?  That being the best bit as you can take them anywhere, I do prefer a book to a Kindle but a Kindle is good if you have to share a room or you just want to turn the light out as you can just carry on reading until you fall asleep, I very often find it in the bed or on the floor the next morning.  So go treat yourself to a new book as it is book lovers day.

I BELIEVE IN BOOK FAIRIES.        #ibelieveinbookfairies

I was so pleased to come across this the other day, what a fantastic idea, one of my favourite authors Amanda Prowse is being a very good fairy and leaving her books all over the place.  There is nothing better than a freebie and then you can leave it or any other books you have for someone else to find them.  I have included the links if you want to get the stickers, I got a pack which included a bit of everything and it was only about £8

They hide books around the WORLD for people to find, read, and then leave for the next person. The best thing is that YOU can get involved to be a book fairy and share your books, too! Head to the  book fairy goodies page to get started.

You can order The Book Fairies stickers so that you can be a book fairy where you live!

They ship around the world, and are so excited to see book drops happening everywhere.

Here is the link to order your stickers.

You can also get Book Fairy Bundles… as well as book fairy stickers in other languages!

book fairy ribbonsThey also now sell The Book Fairies ribbons! This can add an extra touch of magic to your book fairy-ing, so why not order some today?

Here is the link to order ribbons.

Book Fairies are around the world, and could be anyone.. They share a love of reading and a desire to share books with others! Currently, there are over 100 countries involved, from New Zealand to the U.A.E., and they have created a community of book lovers.

They leave behind books for people to find.  So it gives books another lease of life passing them on to the next person, and encouraging this behaviour going forward. Like sharing a book with your friends, except sometimes much more fun!

Anyone can be a book fairy. If you have a pile of books you want to share, or simply want to share a book each time you finish reading it, then order some stickers here!

I am going to try to follow my books to see what roads they travel on and where they end up, how exciting, I can’t wait.

MONDAYS

Second week of August already, I feel sorry for the people holidaying in Britain as even though it is not cold we have had a lot of rain with weather alerts for this week again. The grandchildren keep asking when are we going to the beach or outdoor swimming pool or the fountains and I keep saying there is no sun and if there is some sun it does not last long.  I am sure they would go anyway but it’s just not as enjoyable for the adults sitting shivering on the beach.

I have been very productive today though as written two book reviews on all my sites, it would be so much easier if I just copy and past them all but I feel a bit awful if I don’t write something a bit different.  I can understand now why authors are always asking for reviews as many readers just do not bother.

REVIEWING TIPS

What ever you think of the book then write it.                                                                             It can be as long or as short as you want it to be.                                                                         You can do it in sentences or bullet points.                                                                                     Authors love to get feedback from their readers and will often connect with them on social media.

WHERE TO REVIEW

Authors Facebook or Twitter                                                                                                               Goodreads  http://goodreads.com                                                                                                       Amazon http://amazon.co.uk                                                                                                               Google+                                                                                                                                                     Pinterest, I have made a board about books I have read.

So there are many ways we can all support our wonderful writers that we have now and the ones that are just publishing their first book would be so happy to receive some feedback from their readers.

I hope that makes it a bit less daunting for some and to be honest before I started blogging I never even thought about writing a review.

I am just about to start my next book which is by Carol Wyer, I am looking forward to this as it is another one in the series about DI Robyn Carter.

I am looking after Alfie in a couple of weeks for a long weekend, he is crazy for Minecraft and very clever at it.  So we are going to read all about Pixelville by Daniel Riding which is a new book that was released last month, I will then get Alfie to review it as well as myself.

I guess I had better go and do some gardening before the weeds take over everywhere, I would much rather be reading or writing though.  I have done a lot of planning for my Jersey trip and decided that I will pop over to Guernsey while I am there as never been there before, so lots to look forward to and I really cannot wait.

THE GIRL WHO JUST WANTED TO HAVE FUN BY JENNI REGAN – BOOK REVIEW

fullsizeoutput_ed7

I read this on my Kindle and it was a good book to keep coming back to as it was very repeatable, just with different view points.  I guess you could say it was a bit boring as nothing else really happened apart from what you read at the beginning.

What it does do is give you an insight into the world of drug taking, the descriptions of the human body and what it does to you really hit home.  And again if you have no knowledge about these issues then it is a real eye opener, I would not have liked to do the research for this book.

Very well written with good characters but I think it needed something else going on in the back ground to keep you engrossed and swiping those pages.

FIND HER BY LISA GARDNER – BOOK REVIEW (Best book of the year)

img_4156-1

I am not surprised that this is a Sunday Times best seller as it is one of the best books I have ever read!  For me it goes in at number one for this year and I cannot see anything knocking it off the top spot.

Lisa Gardner is a wonderful author, I would like to read some of her other books to compare with this one.  No other book has kept me so engrossed and awake for so long, the pace is exactly right with just enough exposed to make you turn the next page quickly.  You are never sure what might happen so no predictability at all. The suspense and surprises keep coming to make you gasp and shudder, can Flora survive this hell she has found herself in and will she ever be the same again or even alive.

This psychological suspense thriller is everything you would want one to be and should not be missed, I cannot praise Lisa Gardner enough for giving us the opportunity to devour this fantastic read.  Go straight to Amazon and order this today,     Find Her by Lisa Gardner

BOOKSHELVES

So how do you feel about coloured co-ordinated book shelves?

It really appeals to me and I would love to do it BUT then all the authors would be all over the place and I like all the authors together.

What to do?

Not sure about the diagonal idea but do agree with the fairy lights round bookshelves where ever they are.

Must say I am not into the little figures people have with the books, can’t really see the point but I guess it’s a bit like my little houses along the fireplace, each to their own.

PODCASTS FOR THE BEGINNERS!

This post will apply to the many that have maybe heard about podcasts but know nothing about them, I am in this group and I am thinking most of my friends would have no idea how to listen, what to listen to, the price and where you get them from.  I was reading a blog this morning  From Roses by Rebecca, which you can find here

What a good find as I then clicked on one of the posts about the podcasts that she likes. They sounded really good so I then clicked on one of those and it took me to subscribe but the best bit is that they all do not cost you anything so you subscribe and listen to what ever you want.  While typing this I am listening to Glamour magazine, I am actually feeling very proud of myself.  Why have I never looked into podcasts before, I guess we all think it is a bit scary.  The choice is amazing and covers everything you could think of, so let’s get listening, you can use headphones if you want but as I live alone I just listen through iPad or mac but if you are out then you can listen from your phone. I am full of information today lol.

I read a lot of blogs via Bloglovin as they have every topic you could think of, again very easy to use.

I do keep thinking about audio books but they appear to be a bit expensive as in about £10 a month but I did find this app yesterday which does look interesting and a good deal but the prices are in $ so I have asked for the £ version, will keep you informed.

I feel like I have had a very productive few days, being in bed is good for some things!
