CAT IN THE CAMPER

img_6276

Peaches had her first trip out in the camper today and I do believe she loved it. We drove to Deal and then parked up by the beach which was just over the road.

She soon found a couple of places to lay down and then she had a sleep. I went for a walk over to the beach and she was still asleep when I came back, I was not gone long as didn’t know how she would be.

It was a glorious sunny day today and hopefully we will have at least a week of good weather. Lots of fishermen on the beach today and even a couple of kids in the water, I bet it was cold though. The only problem with taking the cat you can’t have the door open which is a shame when sunny, the windows are ok as they all have screens. I did feel a bit strange just wild camping and think I would prefer to be on a site as there are not many places you can just wild camp and have room to put out your table and chairs.

Was nice to make a cup of tea and just chill, I should have taken my laptop then could have done some writing. At least I know the cat is ok in the camper if I want to take her anywhere again.

Was a nice day out and better than sitting indoors. What do you do if you take your cat with you on your travels?

CAMPER VAN TRAVELS UP THE ROAD!

I had my first night away of this year, mainly to clean tanks and make sure everything was working. Jodie and Alfie came with me, we went to a site near where we live and hooked up to electric. We had a hard standing as the fields are so full of water still but they do say next week will be nice so hopefully everything will dry out a bit.

Little Satmar holiday park is situated in the clifftop village of Capel-le-Ferne, just outside Folkestone, and caters for approximately 50 touring pitches including 3 hard standing areas. Many of the pitches have electric hook up available and there are two toilet & shower blocks on the park – the block within the touring field also includes a kitchen wash area and a chemical disposal area. There is a park reception which incorporates a small shop and tourist information, open daily between 8:30am and 5:30pm. Next to the reception is a small laundry area.

Everything worked fine on the mains electric but we had nothing from the leisure battery so I took it back to the garage that put the new battery on and he got it all working but I need to get a new ring for one of the terminal plugs. I was so relieved it was just that as had a lot of purchases already this year for the van.

It was great spending time with Jodie and Alfie, I am so pleased we got everything sorted as now I can go anywhere. Next week I will take the cat away and see what she thinks about it.

I went to the camping shop and filled my spare gas bottle up and he told me the name of someone who can fit my reversing camera.  The TV did not work as said no signal so hopefully it is just the aerial and the man can fix that as well.

I will have a weekend writing, chilling and a bit of gardening if the weather is nice and also think about where I am going next week. I don’t think I will go too far the first time with the cat but I think she is going to be fine.

NEW TYRE & BATTERY

fullsizeoutput_1556

Took the camper to ATS today for the new tyre but was told afterwards that I need another two, bit of a shock but getting them a bit cheaper at £60 each just got to wait until they come in next Monday.

I am still getting prices for a new battery but ATS gave me a great price, higher cca and ah and they fitted it for me today so that was £114 well spent. The battery is twice the size of the one that was in there so I should have no problems with that.

It is good to know it’s all done and I am safe as there is nothing worse than breaking down on your own somewhere. I am still looking for someone to fit my reversing camera but think I am going to have to go to a camper van dealer or somewhere like that as a normal garage do not really want to touch it.

Myself, Jodie and Alfie are going to camp out in a park and clean all the tanks before filling them and try to clean the awning with a broom. We will hook up to electric and charge everything, get the fridge nice and cold and make sure the TV works as I have never tried that yet.  I wonder how much power it would take from the leisure battery if you watch the tv for a bit when camping off-road?

Once the camper is all sorted then I can take the cat away for couple days and see what she thinks about it all.

How is your week going?

I AM A BATTERY EXPERT LOL

img_6229

I think I need to look for blogging camper van people as I didn’t get any help about my battery dilemma. I did ask on a Facebook camper van group and a lovely man told me what all the numbers mean. So the 096 is the casing size, the cca and the ah you need the highest numbers you can afford and the longest guarantee. I had a few suggestions as to makes that were good and long-lasting so it gave me enough information to start searching myself on the internet. This appears to be the best I have found so far with ah77 and cca780 and 5 year guarantee from Amazon. It does not appear to be calcium so not sure about that aspect.

Back to searching so not a lot of reading or writing happening today.

FIND MY?

I think I have had a light bulb moment but you may not. On all Apple products there is an app for FIND MY PHONE and it is very good as we found out a couple of weeks ago when Kara lost her phone. It took us straight to the house where it was and we got it back. If that works on iPhones, iPads and Mac’s why is it not put in everything from phones, cars, bikes to even children, they could wear some sort of sticker or necklace.  At least then we would have a good chance of getting things back but also it would deter people from stealing things surely.

Mia and Zac have been here today, they bought all the ingredients to make a cake, it turned out enormous but very delicious. Not very good for the diet of course, what diet my inner voice says, I know, I have slipped a bit and can’t even blame the snow or cold now, must be the rain.

I have been looking for a new battery for the camper, what a choice! How on earth am I supposed to pick which one? The prices are all different as well.

This is the one that Halfords recommend and these I have found on-line.

I am liking the 5 year guarantee but then it’s not easy to send back if you get it on-line or do they just send you a new one?

They say a calcium one is better and lasts longer so that is a definite. It has to be powerful as it charges the leisure battery as well.

CAMPER SPARES

It appears that my camper has commercial tyres so they will have to order one in to replace the flat one and it will cost £96. What a relief I only need one! I also checked on a new battery as it has the wrong one in it at the moment and that’s why it went flat as it charges the leisure battery as well, so a middle of the road one with a 4 year guarantee is £101 but you can get them cheaper on-line now I know which size to get. Not cheap these parts but you must have them, the MOT is not until August so it should be ok until then and give me time to save in case anything needs doing then.

I received one egg this year from Billie and I was really pleased when I undid it as there was NO plastic in the wrapping and the egg was in a paper basket. I was so pleased that the companies are taking notice and stopping the ridiculous amount of plastic they use in packages.

This book came today as I had to buy it again as I lent it out and never got it back so I am looking forward to reading it. I have two books to read for Netgalley first so I will get stuck in to reading the next couple of days, while I wait for the garage to ring about when the tyre comes in stock.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

MARCH – APRIL

March was a good month in a lot of ways especially for my blog as my stats went up lots so I am on track for building it up. I had over 2,000 new followers over all social media and I am pleased to say that Stumbleupon has proved good in bringing in new people to read my blog. Facebook and my blog itself are the most popular ways of following my posts and I am pleased to say that the comments are increasing although very slowly.

I did an awful lot of reading but I think that was because of the bad weather and not feeling the best, a couple were short stories but altogether I read ten books, very pleased with that and keeps me on track for my total at the end of the year.

So it is now April and spring but not very spring like weather although we have not got snow down here on the south coast like they have up north.

My camper had a flat tyre so Greenflag breakdown service came out and sorted that out and charged the battery also telling me that it has the wrong battery so I will need to purchase a bigger one as that was why it went flat. A new tyre and a battery so it is going to be an expensive month.  I am so looking forward to going away even if it’s just for a couple of days, I want to take the cat with me and see what she thinks about it.

I joined a Facebook group called single women with campers and was really pleased that there were so many of us out there roaming around the world. They did give me some good ideas and one was to put some tools in the van even though I will always have breakdown cover you never know when you might need a screw driver or spanner. I am still trying to think of a name for my camper so any ideas will be welcome, I think I am thinking too much about it.

I hope to do a lot more writing if I go away as very behind with book, I also have to write a couple of short stories for a competition and one for the Folkestone Writers.

Lunch this month is not until the end of April and hopefully everyone will be able to make it. We will be going to The Grand, I like it there and the views over to France are splendid on a clear day.

The weeds are starting to grow so I need to get the black matting put down under the stepping-stones to stop them and trim back some of the grape-vine. I put some pansies in pots just to brighten the place up a bit. I need it to stop raining so I can get it all sorted before they take over the garden, the weeds I mean.

What have you got planned for April?

Have a good week, it will seem like a nice short one if you are back to work in the morning.  I just love this bunting, how clever.
