MONDAYS

Second week of August already, I feel sorry for the people holidaying in Britain as even though it is not cold we have had a lot of rain with weather alerts for this week again. The grandchildren keep asking when are we going to the beach or outdoor swimming pool or the fountains and I keep saying there is no sun and if there is some sun it does not last long.  I am sure they would go anyway but it’s just not as enjoyable for the adults sitting shivering on the beach.

I have been very productive today though as written two book reviews on all my sites, it would be so much easier if I just copy and past them all but I feel a bit awful if I don’t write something a bit different.  I can understand now why authors are always asking for reviews as many readers just do not bother.

REVIEWING TIPS

What ever you think of the book then write it.                                                                             It can be as long or as short as you want it to be.                                                                         You can do it in sentences or bullet points.                                                                                     Authors love to get feedback from their readers and will often connect with them on social media.

WHERE TO REVIEW

Authors Facebook or Twitter                                                                                                               Goodreads  http://goodreads.com                                                                                                       Amazon http://amazon.co.uk                                                                                                               Google+                                                                                                                                                     Pinterest, I have made a board about books I have read.

So there are many ways we can all support our wonderful writers that we have now and the ones that are just publishing their first book would be so happy to receive some feedback from their readers.

I hope that makes it a bit less daunting for some and to be honest before I started blogging I never even thought about writing a review.

I am just about to start my next book which is by Carol Wyer, I am looking forward to this as it is another one in the series about DI Robyn Carter.

I am looking after Alfie in a couple of weeks for a long weekend, he is crazy for Minecraft and very clever at it.  So we are going to read all about Pixelville by Daniel Riding which is a new book that was released last month, I will then get Alfie to review it as well as myself.

I guess I had better go and do some gardening before the weeds take over everywhere, I would much rather be reading or writing though.  I have done a lot of planning for my Jersey trip and decided that I will pop over to Guernsey while I am there as never been there before, so lots to look forward to and I really cannot wait.

FAMILY AFFAIR

I took some family who are over from Australia to The Grand Hotel in Folkestone, Kent for a superb cream tea.  They sat us in the best window seat with glorious views over The Leas’s towards France.  As usual the scones were huge and delicious, the tea always tastes better from a tea-pot, the service is wonderful and the ambiance of this hotel is what makes you want to go back again and again.

I feel like we have a very modern family as it is my children’s father and his wife that are here visiting and staying with my girls.  Myself and Jodie decided on The Grand as I keep telling her how nice it is.  The conversation flowed with lots of laughs, his wife Elaine is a lovely person and gets on with everyone, one of the grandchildren described her as being ‘very funny.’  It is nice to see him connecting with all his grandchildren as some he had never seen before, so a wonderful afternoon was had by all of us.  I feel it is such a shame that some families let the bitterness destroy any happy times together as it is always the children that miss out.

IT ALL FALLS INTO PLACE

It is not often I get what is known as that light bulb moment when things just all fall into place in your mind and then you know what you have to do.  In this case I have got to say good-bye to someone I have known for a number of years but we are just going in different directions and no where are we on the same road anymore.  It is so much easier when you can see all this as there is no anger or upset, it is just a have a nice life.

Older and wiser is a lovely place to be, I just wish I had known so many things when younger but it just goes round and round no one listens to their elders, we all think we are right.  Sometimes life is so hard or is it that we make it hard for ourselves?

I am all for a happy, peaceful and content way of life now and if I am honest I am happier now on my own in my little flat and garden than I have ever been.  It is a great comfort that my three wonderful children and ten grandchildren all live within walking distance and are always there for me as I am for them.

I feel very proud of my kids as they have all grown and developed into lovely, intelligent warm adults so I think I did a good job even though I made so many mistakes with all of them, we have all learnt from them.

Love you all 💖

FOLKESTONE WEEKEND 8th 9th JULY 2017

There was not a single person that could say they were bored in Folkestone this weekend as there was so much going on.  Saturday we had the yearly Charivari Festival, the costumes are amazing and get bigger and better every year.  Many of the local schools get involved also the various groups.  It goes right through the town with many more people lining the route or following from the back.  Music is fantastic and it really is a happy event and made even better by the fantastic weather we are having, long may it continue.

The tall ships were moored up at The Harbour Arm making it a beautiful sight, the ships always appear so elegant to me, I would love to go for a trip on one.  The music was great on the Arm and all free entertainment, well apart from a beer and some seafood, which is a must have if you are at the beach.  I do not think I have seen The Harbour Arm so packed, there was people everywhere having a good time.

If that wasn’t enough there was the flyover from the old planes, which I watched from my garden.  Folkestone is really coming alive this summer with so many attractions and places to visit, I love living here and so pleased all my children and the ten grandchildren all live within walking distance as there is nothing better than family.

DESPICABLE ME 3

Alfie came to stay again for the weekend and today we went down to Folkestone Silver Screen cinema to see Despicable Me3.  I love our old cinema, so much character in the old buildings.

What a brilliant, funny film, Alfie loved it. Some good sounds in there as well.

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS 2017

MONDAY 19th JUNE

Sheila’s daughter Jen did this painting of my cat Peaches, I really love it so much and what a thoughtful special thing to be given.  Jen’s pictures are amazing and you can see them under Tiny Creations on Facebook, I will do a blog post soon about all her work.

As my friends know I am a garden lover and these flowers are superb, I love pink roses and the grandchildren will like the bunny mouths, I have always called them that so that is my Nan’s fault, lol.  The welcome spade is so unusual and I love it.

This blue pearl in a cage I just adore and I had to poke about in an oyster to get the pearl out, never seen anything like that before and apparently they x-ray the oysters to make sure there is a pearl in there.

I can now have music in my garden with the super pink radio and smell nice with one of my favourite perfumes.

These are a few of the wonderful presents I received, I love every single one of them and will treasure them.  I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to my many amazing friends and my family who make my birthday such a memorable day.  I do think your birthday is a bit special when an adult as it is the only day in the year that is yours and to spend it with people you love makes it even more amazing.

SCI-FI BY THE SEA AT HERNE BAY

I took Alfie to the sci-fi show as there was a Minecraft Zone and that is what he loves, having never been to anything like this before it was an experience for both of us. Arriving in Herne Bay we had to find somewhere to park and then we walked to the event and got in the queue and I must say I have never been in one as long as this but it was the quickest one as they were so well organised even down to searching some bags so it just goes to prove that with good organisation everything flows very quickly.  All the tickets were bought before on-line and you just gave them the print out.

It was amazing from Daleks to Star trek even Pokemon just about everything you could think of including the cars.  I loved the pink Dalek and the cyber man didn’t look as scary as what I remember him when a little girl.  Alfie loved the laser park and killed lots of people also the bouncy castle slides.  The Minecraft Zone was a bit disappointing as it was just a tent full of computers and tv’s with Minecraft on them and Alfie has it on everything at home.  He was very lucky on all the tombola and also got some new packs of Pokemon cards.

We had a nice picnic with lots of characters walking past us and even some of the visitors had dressed up for the day, there was a field, playground and hall full of things to do.  It really was a great day out and one we will remember for a long time.
