KARA’S TATTOO

img_4827

Last week I went for lunch with Kara but before that she wanted to get another tattoo, I am not a fan of them but I don’t mind a little one hidden just for yourself with a meaning to it. Kara was going to get it on her arm but I managed to convince her that it should be a bit hidden as you never know what you might be doing in twenty years and if you had a job where you could not show your tattoo you would be in long sleeves all summer. So eventually she decided on her shoulder, score one to Nan!

I had never seen a tattoo being done so was very interested, I found it hard to understand why you would put yourself through unnecessary pain, Kara said it was because I was old and didn’t understand, lol.  I do like the amount of hygiene these tattoo and piercing places have to go by now at least it is relatively safe but I guess some do get infected, not sure it would be from this place though as everything was covered in cling film and replaced constantly.

I was surprised how quick it is all done but amazed at how much they all cost, how do people afford to have so many?

As Kara works in a coffee shop she had a hot chocolate put in her heartbeat so it did look pretty with a bit of colour.  She asked me if I wanted one but I declined, maybe one day I might buck up the courage to have a tiny one done just for myself.  The lady who did Karas said she did her Mum one the other day for her 60th birthday, I thought that was cute.  So here is the end result, even with marshmallows in the hot chocolate and some steam!  Kara was pleased so I guess that’s all that matters, the only problem is she now wants another one, I am trying to dissuade her with not much luck at the moment.

NOVEMBER 5th – This might be a moan!

img_4860

Years ago a group of children would build a guy and then take him to sit outside the local shop asking for “a penny for the guy Mr” in the evening all the families would gather round the rec to watch, bringing home-made toffee apples.  There would be lots of oooooo and aaarrrrrs as the fireworks made their magic in the sky.

What a lovely thought but now it is just a memory for many as you could not let your kids out to knock on doors asking for things to build their guy, you could not let them sit outside shops on their own.  I am guessing that now hardly any of them would know what a guy was let alone how to build one.

Times change – we now have fireworks for about a week and for any other occasion people can think of, they are let off with not a thought for anyone else or animals.  This week I have seen news about a horse jumping over the fence because a firework went off very early evening and landed in his field, the horse landed on a car and is now in vet hospital, the owner is distraught and praying he will be ok.  Dogs are escaping gardens so scared and just running, cats are hiding.  We all know to bring our animals inside but you do not expect it all to start so early in the evening or a week either side of November 5th.  They are so loud that I am sure it would be more enjoyable if quieter so you can just watch the spectacular colour show, many children are so scared they do not even want to go outside.

Where is the enjoyment in all that?

What I think – Firework displays should only be arranged ones with a permit, no fireworks should be sold to the general public, there needs to be a bigger cordon keeping people further away from the fireworks. I have seen a firework first hand come back down into the crowd and seriously hurt many people.  With all the fuss about health and safety now a days I cannot understand why they are still allowed, they have set ridiculous rules for some things but then nothing for fireworks going off in streets, gardens or just about anywhere at anytime during the year!

Feel free to comment, rant over, I think, oh no! There will be more tonight as it is actually Guy Fawkes night!

READING THIS BOOK NOW AND LUNCH

I always find it hard to turn off from writing by reading a book so I will have a slow month of book reviews while I am writing for NaNoWriMo.  I checked my total of books read this year and I am on 50 so that’s only 10 away from my target so I should easily do that or maybe overtake 60.  I tend to just put the TV on with a film until I fall asleep, then the timer turns the television off.   I only did about 500 words today as I met Kara for lunch but I am hoping to make up the words over the next few days as I will be chained to the laptop.

LUBENS PIZZA

Lovely hummus and fresh bread to start with and then we shared a pizza as they are very big and it was delicious.  It consisted of chicken, pancetta, roast peppers, red onion, rocket, parmesan and garlic oil, probably one of the best pizza’s I have had.

I was surprised how busy it was in there so I am pleased it is still going well for them.

We had to have dessert, I went for the new york cheesecake and Kara had the brownie.  It was so nice to just sit and chat as we haven’t done that for ages as she is always working so we decided that once a month we would make the effort and go for lunch.

WEEKEND WAS SUPER

We are being very spoiled down here in the south as we are having wonderful weather for the last three days, long may it continue.  Today it is 25 in my garden, I have done every bit of washing I could find as I don’t expect many more outdoor drying days.

I had my hair done last week as was getting a bit bored with the blonde.

On Saturday I was round Jodies for a sleepover, Alfie’s choice and we watched some films.  We also had one of the twins for the night, so it was great to spend time with Jack, what a gorgeous baby and such a happy soul.

The Jack Daniels is a penny jar before someone comments on our choice of toys LOL.

I also did a little maintenance on the camper, there was a bit of brown under the bonnet so I brushed it with a metal brush then sprayed some Hammerite on it, felt very pleased with myself.  Put my bunting up and did a tidy-up of cupboards as got saucepans and cutlery to go in there now.

Once I have washed the new duvet cover that will be put in there.

So a very productive and enjoyable weekend and it made a pleasant change as usually I spend the weekend indoors on my own, not that I am complaining as I do like my own company.

The new Emoji movie is good fun and better than what I was expecting so I can understand why the kids like it.

I also finished this book so will do a review tomorrow for you all, it is very good, like all Anne’s stories so look out for this series.  It is set in Guernsey which is a beautiful place to live.

Looking forward to a ‘getting ready for NANOWRIMO week’ so I will be ready for the 1st November.

Hope you all had a good weekend and may your week be full of sunshine.

PIXELVILLE: SWORD & BONE BY DANIEL RIDING – BOOK REVIEW

I think the Minecraft label made this a disappointment as it wasn’t really anything like it, so says my Grandson who read this with me (Alfie age 9).  He got bored about halfway but I did carry on until the end.  I think maybe it would appeal to a younger reader as it was just one story line and what happened to them on their adventure.  I loved the imagination and a child would be able to see the picture in their mind.

The descriptions were really good and it would keep a younger child reading especially if it made no reference to Minecraft.

SING – FILM

These children’s films are so good these days, I watched this with Alfie and the songs in it are great, even he was singing along.  Mind you it was about the 4th time he had seen it so it obviously got a good rating from him.

Well worth watching and good fun.

SEPTEMBER 2017

img_2065

I always think this month is a bit of a nothing month as it is between the seasons but I am hoping for an indian summer so we can enjoy the outside a bit more as lets face it August was a bit of a wash out, apart from last bank holiday weekend which we all enjoyed outside.

I had to come back from camping with the family as I got a bad chest infection that spread upwards to my throat, doctor said more antibiotics and if it does not go then to go back.  My throat is much better but I still have the cough and bad chest, it really has been a bad year for my chest and I was really surprised to get ill when the sun was shining as normally my joints and things are better in summer.

My camping buddy loved sleeping in there with me, we decided it was much better than a tent.

I have my trip to Jersey to look forward to, I have already started to write lists and plan where I am going and what I am going to see.  Really looking forward to remembering such happy times with Nan and Grandad there when I was 7 and 8 years old.

Last week we said goodbye to family over from Australia but it was so good to catch up and chat about our time there.  Some of the children have got ideas for their gap year to go over and see some of the vast country.

The Folkestone Triennial starts this weekend with many art objects scattered all round the town, there is also an app available which is free.  You can find the link on my Facebook and Twitter as for some reason the link does not like this post.

Back to school next week, it really has gone so quickly and we haven’t done half of what we wanted to do because of the weather, I think they have all had fun though.

Happy September everybody.
