HOLIDAY TIPS & FACTS ABOUT BENIDORM IN SPAIN

FINESTRAT BAY  I love this little bay.  My friend and I stayed here for 3 days full board for €75

img_4130

Alicante Spain, two-hour flight away from London, Gatwick UK it goes so quick and you can pick up for less than £60 return some months of the year.  Transfers to Benidorm costing about £6 each way makes it a relatively cheap break.  Benidorm attracts over five million tourists a year from many parts of the world but mainly Europe, it has 320 sunny days a year roughly so that is a huge attraction especially for us in Britain who suffer medically from the cold.  With 5 km of beaches you can pick to be in the hub of activity with nightclubs or a less active area with bars or even be in a real quiet part and with 150 hotels, 157 disco pubs, about 800 bars, 330 restaurants and 5 theme parks you have so much choice.  What is there not to like?

The Old Town is a must to visit with many small tapas bars tucked up little lanes with true spanish food, for the shoppers there are many, from one euro shops to expensive womans wear and luxury handbags and shoes, the spanish are very elegant when you see them out for their nightly stroll along the quiet beachfront or just sitting taking in the views and catching up with friends.

If you are eating out on a budget then you have to look for a “el menu del día” which is a menu of the day consisting of 3 courses, bread and a drink.  It is normally written on a chalk board outside the restaurant and can vary in price from as little as €7 per person so look out for the bargain meals served between 1pm & 4pm.  Some places do them all day and night so it is worth having a look round.

For the sun worshipers you can hire a sun bed on the beach for €4.50 a day but keep your ticket as you can move anywhere along the long stretch of beach which is very handy if you want to try somewhere different for lunch or a drink and then go down to the beach nearest you.  There are lifeguards all along the beaches so safe for the little ones, in fact it caters for all ages here as you can hire mobility scooters and many do as you will see them along the front.

Keeping your windows closed and shutters or curtains closed during the day will keep your room/apartment cooler.  Buy the very large bottles of water to keep in your fridge as it is much cheaper.  If you are eating in some days then pop to a Masymas supermarket or a Mercadona as these will be cheaper than small shops along the many streets.  There is even an Iceland a very short bus ride away from Levante beach its a number 10 bus with all trips no matter where you go for €1.50 single.

You still get a beer for a euro in some bars and cocktails are about €5, full english start at about €4 and rising but check to see what it includes.

Market day is Tuesday which is Levante area, that has many bargains.

Another great deal breaker is that all mobile calls and texts now come out of your own data so no roaming charges from now.

So there you have my tips for a great holiday in Benidorm, enjoy.

HOT WEEK & FLOWERS EVERYWHERE!

IMG_0498

It was wonderful to come home to a garden full of flowers but the vine weed is not welcome and appears to be popping up everywhere, my granddaughter sent me a photo of my first roses, what a glorious colour pink they are.  I get a good dish full of strawberries most days and the carrots and beetroot are doing well.  The grape-vine has taken off, destination unknown!

It was my birthday on Monday and Kara took me to the pub for dinner, was the first time she has treated me to dinner so was great.  I got some lovely cards and presents and the sun was shining.

I am looking forward to Wednesday as that is the birthday lunch with my friends so will do a post about that next week.

It is nice to be home and even nicer that the weather is still so glorious here in Kent, it was still up to 31 in my garden today.  I like to just sit in it so not a lot of gardening has been attempted, in fact it is a good job Linda is coming home from Spain today as my front grass has not been done since she did it weeks ago.  I will be in her good books as I am picking her up from the airport tonight. LOL.

I need to get back into some writing as the local competitions are in the next couple of months, I appear to be very behind with all of my writing as couldn’t get into it at all for a few weeks at the beginning of the year as was not well.  It is very easy to get distracted when you are not focused, how do you keep on track or get back on track?

THE SUN BAR IN BENIDORM

IMG_3681

This was by our apartment and it had free wi-fi I could always remember her name as it was Karen lol.  A cute little bar that was always packed in the evenings.  Karen and her husband Miguel are so friendly and will always come and have a chat to you.  The coffee is really nice and you get it in a nice clean mug.

FILMING OF BENIDORM

We watched some of the filming one day as it was in the next street, very funny to watch but my they get so hot waiting about for the next take.

Cocktails were always good but particularly in one bar near us where you could actually taste the alcohol.  My favourite was the blue one which was called The Swimming Pool!

BENIDORM, SPAIN

I had a week away in Benidorm with my friend Corinne, the weather was fantastic and the whole place was buzzing.  It was so good to see it like it was a few years ago, no empty buildings and people in all the bars and restaurants.  They will have a super summer that will make up towards the loss over the last few years.

AIRB&B

This new way of renting places to stay in from weekends to long holidays is proving very popular in Europe at the moment.  It is so much cheaper than hotels and normally a better deal than B&B or guest houses.  We had an apartment that had everything in it you would need in fact it is like home from home, one bedroom with twin beds plus a sofa bed in lounge, fully equipped kitchen and even a washing machine so you don’t have to take dirty clothes home.  A nice balcony to enjoy a sangria and if you get too hot just pop the air conditioning on.

Plus the use of the pool, which was the only thing that lacked something which was sun loungers, we even had the pool to ourselves most days.  We were 200 metres from the beach plus many bars and shops in our road.

We made our own Paella one night and Sangria, very tasty.  Then at the airport I found the seasoning so I will be making my own at home plus the sangria and ali oli, I love that with bread and olives.

Our favourite drink was the strawberry and lime Kopperberg with lots of ice.

Opposite our apartment there was an Indian restaurant and kebab house so we popped over for a meal one night, I have to say it was one of the best I have tasted, the service was brilliant and everything was so clean.

A brilliant time was had by us both, it was nice to sit in the sun and chill with no noisy neighbour shouting constantly.  Our host Sarah was lovely and met us as soon as we got there and gave us a tour and the keys, if we had of hired a car there was even parking by the apartments.  I love the atmosphere of Benidorm and the Spanish so I am sure I will be back again soon.  With just a two-hour flight which we got for £60 return each it is a cheap get away, I don’t really like flying so a short flight is perfect for me.

Then we bring the sun home with us so my holiday mood continues.

HOLIDAY = STRESS

img_2930

I sometimes wonder if going on holiday is worth all the stress that goes with it, although I must say I don’t remember getting this stressed previous years.  My head feels like it is going to explode with so much going through it.  When you live alone with the cat everything is left to oneself to sort out, my lists have lists have lists, almost forgot medication but thank goodness the chemist sorted that all out with doctor.  I love my garden and I am sure everything will flower while I am away, I have given my grandaughter a list of what she should water, take photos of, aswell as looking after Peaches.  I like to get all washing done as will be bringing more home with me and I like the place all tidy and clean.  My cleaner is really ill in hospital so not sure if she will be able to return, gardeners appear to be very rare, daughter did cut hedge so I can get to my gate now without fighting my way through.  I know I am going to come home to weeds amongst the flowers but not a lot I can do about that.  I must be a bit low as that makes me so sad, should I be going away feeling like this?  Going to be very worried at airport and will go straight through security as I figure you are safe there, I know you can’t live in fear but it does make you more aware of things.  I am afraid my friend Corinne might have to wait a bit before we go to The Shard as I really don’t want to go to London at the moment, I would be worried going there everyday if I worked there.  The events in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge are awful and my heart goes out to all the injured and the families of the people we lost, how do you get over that?  Stay safe everybody, I will return and hopefully will feel a bit better.

JUNE 2017

This picture reminds me of myself and eldest daughter Jodie sitting in her hot tub with a delicious cocktail.

The sun is shining, it is half term here so I think the beach will be busy today, you can find me in my garden reading this little gem.  Two murders and I have not got a clue who committed them yet but I am trying to pick up the clues.  I love Guy’s books, I best get a move on as this is published tomorrow, get reading Karen.

img_3156

Half way through the year already, I think this is my favourite month as it is summer, we have long evenings, the gardens are beginning to get some colour and of course the best thing is it’s my birthday month.   The warm weather has been a long time coming this year so I am hoping it stays a while.  My body is far less painful in the warmer weather so I can sit to write, paint or read without being full of painkillers.  I am 3 books off my running total for this year so I need to do a bit more reading, it takes longer to do all the reviews now as I like to write something a bit different on all the various sites and social media.

What is your favourite month and why?

PONTINS HOLIDAY PARK

CAMBER SANDS, KENT UK

img_3279.jpg

For the benefit of all my readers not in the UK, I will explain that in one of our daily newspapers (Sun) you can collect coupons and go to these type of parks in Britain and Europe for a charge of £9.50 each person, minimum of 4 people.  You stay in chalets, caravans or lodges that are all self-contained with everything you would need.

So myself and Billie’s family and Kara all went here for a long weekend, as you can see there is plenty for the children to do as well as clubs and activities so they love it here.

We picked a great weekend as the weather was super, think the children liked the swimming pool best but a close second were the push bikes that 4 people can fit on.

Billie learnt all about the different dinosaurs lol, Jade relaxed and I really liked this shrub with the pink flowers but not sure what it was called.  Every evening you have bingo, children’s club and entertainment, they were pleased to see Scooby Doo.

The entertainment on the Saturday night was one of the best I have ever seen and kept us all laughing so a great night was had by everyone.  Paul and Billie loved their mini holiday and asked me to look out for some more deals so they can have another holiday.
