I have always had a bit of a fascination for this very talented man H.G.Wells especially as he lived here in Folkestone, in fact he had the house built and it still stands today but is a nursing home.  I have been through the grounds and even seen the hut that he did a lot of his writing in.  You can even see the house he rented in Sandgate while the house was being built.

I do not think people are aware of how clever he really was in thinking up things of the future.  Even the house he built had bathrooms for every bedroom something no one else had thought of before and did not even take off until many years later after his death.  He predicted some sort of talking device to contact other people or as it is known today, the phone.

He was a very passionate man in his writing and his personal life, in fact when indulging in a passionate affair it would show in his writing.  His most famous book is The Time Machine which was so well received then, it put him forwards as a most popular author, so many wanted to read his views in his stories.

Folkestone used to be such a grand place, it would be lovely to see it like that again for our future generations.

While watching Alfie on the sand leaving footprints as he splashed in the soggy bits then building sand castles with moats, digging holes to see if he could find the water and just leaving all sorts of marks including his name to show he had been there.  It made me think of the many children that have also done that over the years, their costumes may have changed style but the joys of the beach never change for children.

The many dimensions of family life never changes the thrill of the beach and what you can build with the sand.  It evolves over the years but never changes, every day it takes the children’s castles and returns flat for the next session of memories to be made.

Layers of memories and stories stored in the depths, if you dig far enough you find a story and then it is yours to tell.  Have pirates walked on your sand?  Are there caves with fairies or wolves?  Was there a castle with a princess looking for her prince?  So many ideas you get from sitting on the sand holding the grains as they run through your fingers, how many fingers have they touched?

Many stories could be told, I am writing mine, what would you write about?

Happy day dreams x

My friend Carol gave me a book token for my birthday so I wanted to get one that I would keep and continue to look at and then I remembered about this book.  I have had it on my WANT list for so long so I was so pleased to be able to buy it and I was not disappointed at all, it really is a superb read with so many different parts in there.  I love the recipes, could you imagine putting vodka in penne pasta?  I will take pictures and do a taste test when I make it.

The other book I got this week I wanted for my writing and again I was so pleased when it arrived as so many good points and words that I am sure it will be used a lot.

My friend Angela the sci-fi author told me about this book and can understand why she loved it so much.  Well worth getting if you are an author and get stuck for words at times, I find I know a word in my head but I just cannot recall it so this really helps me.

So it is now Spring and they say that Easter is not looking very good on the weather front next weekend, what a surprise!  Today is also International Day of Happiness so I hope you are all happy or making other people happy, we do not often think about that or do it but the simplest word, smile, present or touch can make such a difference to a persons day.

I had a count up yesterday and I have read 13 books this year so far, that is really good for me so I am very pleased with myself.  I am reading My Mother is a River at the moment and as much as it is a really good book, so well written and really touches you, I am finding it hard going but I will continue until the end.

I have been looking at other peoples to be read pile on Facebook and they have so many, some over a hundred!  I get very anxious when I have a few to read as I feel I am letting the authors down, think I need to get more books and look at it from a positive point of view that I have bought the book and the author will like that anyway.  I always do reviews on Amazon for the books I buy from there and realised through Facebook the other day that you can review any book you have read on Amazon you don’t have to have bought it from there!  I know I’m a bit slow, no comments on that please. Lol.  So that means I have a few reviews to put up, let’s hope I can remember all the books.  Just so the authors know who read this, my reviews stay on my blog and website.

The Harbour Arm opened this weekend in Folkestone and has been very busy, some more eating places have opened so I will be taking pictures and reviewing the food over the next month.  There are also another four coffee shops that I need to visit, a lot for Folkestone but all appear to be doing ok.  I suggested to my daughter that we go out once a month for dinner so I can catch up with the restaurants then in the summer I can mention all reviews for people to decide where to go for dinner.

This blog is now 4 years old, I certainly did not think I would still be doing it four years later, but I am and still having fun.  I like the way it is going where there are more things about Folkestone and all what is happening in our town.  The book reviews are getting popular as publishers are now sending me them to review.  The most popular posts are the ones about Folkestone especially like where to go for food and cake.

The stats have all gone up so much, I am amazed and really happy that you all still like to read my blog.

It is read in over 80 countries now!

I think this deserves champagne but alas I am indoors on my own so it may be a hot chocolate with a dash of Baileys later.  Thank you every single one of you that is a part of my community, I love you all. xx

Meeting these two last night was an excellent experience as so much of what they were saying I could relate to, there calm voices had all the audience mesmerised and waiting for the next topic.

I have started reading this book and having a hard time putting it down as it is so good.  I love the way Matt writes and tells a story.

I did ask them a question which was, do you think if they changed the name ‘mental‘ to say Brain Health would it get rid of the stigma that is associated with the word mental.  They both didn’t think so as we are now teaching the younger generation to look after their brain so they will learn differently.  I am afraid I am going to disagree with them as I think a change of word will make it all so much more approachable  and talked about more.

So I have another signed book to add to my collection and it goes in my top ten of great books already.

Mental Health is such a scary thing and I think the worse part is that you have no control over it at all.  Yes, there are things you can try for say panic attacks but the actual depression just takes over and has a life of its own in your body.  There is no time factor as to when it appears or even how long it stays with you and that for me was the terrifying part as I could not control it at all.  When I was talking to Matt I told him that I had been discharged from the Mental Health team last Tuesday and he asked how that made me feel?  It is very scary as I feel they have deserted me, but I have a superb network of friends so it’s onward and upwards. Fingers crossed. xx

A fantastic evening and event for The Folkestone Book Festival, I am eagerly waiting for the next talk I am attending on Wednesday.  More to follow.

Not a very productive day today but at least some words have been written.  I can blame my granddaughter though as she spends Monday afternoons with me.

Words written 893

Total words for the month 25,546

I am about a thousand words behind where I should be but at least I am writing so not going to get hung up about it, will just plod on tomorrow.  It’s lovely to see so many writers doing this and doing really well, it is a huge community that are all so nice.

Not sure I like the change in the layout of WordPress, just when you get used to something they decide to change it all.
