PHYLLIS McDOWELL

R.I.P Phyllis, a truly lovely person inside and out, loved by so many in Folkestone where she lived and the many places she visited and spent time at.

I first met Phyllis at an open day at her studio where she also lived, very close to myself.  As soon as I saw the front of her house I knew she had taste…..Pink heaven!

I helped her with some social media promotion and did some blogs about her and her teaching.  She was a very talented artist, loved by so many people.  I attended her class and learnt so much from her, she fed my thirst for painting and the arts.

Her favourite painting was the first one below of her daughter Lucy McDowell.

Spending time with many in the community and supporting causes her name would always pop up at the many social events.

She will be missed by so many people, I still cannot really get my head around that I won’t see her again.

It was so nice to see her painting out in the community, capturing so many memories, I particularly liked the one she did out on the Harbour Arm of the group that were playing.  I am not sure how she managed to get the painting completed as so many friends old and new would stop, admire and chat.

Her paintings were shown far and wide at the many exhibitions to promote her work or even just so many people could admire her unique pictures.

My thoughts and prayers go to the many people she called family and loved with all her heart.  It was a joy to have known and spent time with you  Phyllis, I will remember you always.

All my love Karen xx

KATE KNIGHT – ARTIST

one  Kate Knight works from a studio down the Old High Street in Folkestone, her paintings are amazing, with the window display sure to catch your eye.  I particularly liked the postcards so much nicer than a typical holiday scene and you could frame them yourself when you got home.

I love her use of purple, she makes it all look so vibrant.  There are so many reasons why Kent is so popular for tourists and all the hidden gems in Folkestone are the best bit.

You can see Kate’s work or contact her to buy a painting from her website which is:

GOOD FRIDAY

Where did the day go, all I can say is that windows 8 is very different but not hard to get to know. It has taken me most of the day but I have put all my stuff on it and changed all the colours and now it feels like mine.

One of my granddaughters face timed me this afternoon ( she does quiet often ) to tell me that they had been out and she had got six pots of taster paints to paint her Barbie house and some tiles for one of the room’s. My son in law has built another level on it for her as she needed another bedroom, the house is bigger than her! We have a very happy girl though and the Barbie’s think it is great. I was also told that there is a Barbie who is a writer and that has been put on her birthday list.

I had fish for dinner, got to keep the tradition going, afraid it was not fresh though. Hopefully it has renewed a few brain cells, well, they say it makes you brainy.

Hope you all had a Good Friday.

HAPPY

Just little thing’s can make you happy, can be a smile from a friend or a kind word for it to lift you up for the whole day. For another person it might not mean anything at all to them, we cannot know what make’s the other person happy but always giving a wave, smile or word to others might make their day for them. A comment on here or FaceBook or Twitter can make me smile as I then know that what they have read they have enjoyed and that is what keeps me going. I guess we all have self doubt, some more than others, so a nice comment makes it all worthwhile, for me anyway.

The new laptop was bought today, not the one I saw on-line but a faster better one so all I have to do now is set it all up, I have allowed all tomorrow for that job, and playing with it. I have not used windows 8 yet so I am looking forward to it.

I really like the colour too, something a bit different. I wonder if it will help me to write quicker, I seem to have so many ideas in my head for stories that I do not know what to write first. Should I finish the couple of short stories or enter a couple of competitions or get on with my novel? I am at least writing so all is good. Tonight I will be going to bed with a book as in our Sainsbury’s supermarket they are doing a good selection of books at 2 for £3.00

The following picture I saw on my daughter’s wall this afternoon, I thought it looked lovely and what a lovely keepsake, it could be covered by a piece of Perspex to keep it looking good. The two girls aged ten and one had good fun in the paint and both liked different thing’s about the experience, the elder one liked doing the prints while the younger one loved the feeling of the paint on her hands and feet and then looking back on her prints. I’m sure she was probably thinking how did that get there, it’s on my feet lol.

Tomorrow is Good Friday, when I was a child I would go with my grandparents to the fish man as we always had fresh fish for dinner. I think all the children of today will remember about Easter are the chocolate eggs. What do you remember about Good Friday?

Have a happy day. x
