HOW OLD IS TOO OLD?

What a grey area we have here and it does not matter what the topic is as for some you are never too old.

I think choosing what we wear after we turn 50 is a bit of a gamble with the good thing being that maybe we are too old to give a dam and just wear what we like and what is comfortable. I think some get a bit braver and mix up their style and I’m all for that, let’s have a bit of individuality as lets face it no one is going to stop you and say something, we are british and far too ‘proper’ for that.

Dating – It certainly does not get any easier no matter what age you are, it’s all a bit of a minefield especially once you look at internet dating. Supposed to be easier as your only matched to people who match you but I can assure you it does not always work. We all know all the rules about safety but what about courage and nerves we need an app to activate that as I am lacking in that department. A truth button on the dating sites would be good as we can all put what ever we like.

A little while ago there was a speed dating event in Folkestone and it is one thing that I have never attempted but I thought I could go with a friend and it could be a fun night out. This is where the title of the post comes in as yes, I was too old! Me at 57 was too old to attend the speed dating, I was a bit peeved. Why would they think the middle-aged of us are too old to speed date? There are an awful lot of single, divorced and widowed older people now which I am sure would make it a very fun evening and I am sure we would all stay for a drink and socialise until the close of the bar!

So maybe age is just a number and you are only as old as the man you are feeling….I wish! LOL

I really liked his poem by Ananya Grace Haldar that I saw on Facebook.

“Romancing After Forty”

We didn’t see this coming
We thought we were done
with pursuing and dating.
It’s Rube Goldberg complex
just trying to meet someone;
and the rules have changed
You’re either too needy —–
Or not needy enough.

Then there’s the danger
of judging too soon.
So we accept each other’s baggage because what would we look like
if we never took that chance?
We learn to embrace
these novelties
with the phases of the moon.

By now, we are who we are
No one is going to change.
We’ve reached middle age
We’re confident, successful.
Ready for the next stage.
We have experience,
so take that leap of faith —–
You might like where you land.

QUARTERHOUSE EVENTS, FOLKESTONE

IMG_4303

What a lot of things happening in Folkestone this Autumn.

The Triennial is well under way and attracting lots of visitors, there are some amazing art objects scattered about, if you can find them all but there is a booklet to help you. Many more events are being put on around the town over the next few weeks.

Then in November we have the Book Festival, I have already booked my tickets for the events I want to attend.  If you have not booked yet then do not leave it too long as they are selling particularly fast this year.  Really looking forward to seeing Julie Wassmer again and asking about her new book that she has just finished.

I love some of these shows coming up at The Quarter House.

Many things to do round Folkestone and with the weather being nice at the moment it makes a pleasant stroll round looking at the wonderful art that is making an appearance in our town  I have also heard that our Banksy will soon be on show, no details where yet but obviously it will be inside a building so no one can de-face it, although why anybody would want to I have no idea.

JUST SHARING OR PLAGIARISM?

Picture used as example from Facebook today by Cathy Jackson.

I can honestly say that I was shocked to my core last night, making me so upset and contemplating removing myself from all social media as I just cannot deal with this amount of unnecessary distress.

I will share with you the comment that was posted on my wall for everyone to read!  It is still there with all the comments, I was going to remove it but my daughter said any publicity is good publicity when you have done nothing wrong.  She was also the first person to see it on my wall so very upsetting for her also, I was then contacted by many friends showing their support.

As you can imagine if something like that was posted on your wall you would be upset.  I had no idea what so ever what she was talking about so asked her.  It was a picture with a written quote on it and no name that was in one of my picture folders on Facebook, I had to search through to find it.  I had obviously shared it when it came up on my wall from somebody else, I cannot remember who or when and looked through my page on Facebook but could not find it.  I deleted it from my picture folder immediately and responded back to her.

My points in all this today as have a clearer and less upset head are:

You should not write this on someone’s wall.

You should not immediately accuse someone until you know the facts.

If you do not want something shared then DO NOT put it on Facebook.

So we now have the issue of, should we share these appealing quotes and pictures when seen on social media?  This is just a few on Pinterest.

We all know there are millions of them on the web, many with no name so what do we do, ignore and delete them?  Share them and just hope for the best?

If someone shared a quote and pretty picture I had made up I would feel so proud that it was liked enough to share with their friends.

This is obviously a mine field and I am very sure that most people would not act like this person did to me.  Can you imagine the awful consequences that could occur if myself or anybody was at a very low point in their life at that moment, a comment like that could send them over the edge, it sickens me that people still only think about themselves and no thought or empathy with anybody else.

At the end of the day it was just a picture of a bird with a written sentence on it that she had put on Facebook.

All very unnecessary.

IT’S CHRISTMAS

img_1598

The tree is up and the first window is open on the advent calender, also I hear that some naughty elves have been visiting some houses and causing mayhem!

I went to my grandsons assembly this morning, what a super performance featuring all they have learnt about The Rain Forest, including poems and paintings that were fantastic.

I am loving all my houses, getting a good assortment now.  I really need to start wrapping, if I do a bit each day then maybe they will get ribbons and bows on them! or maybe not…..such a bad wrapper.

OMG

The sun is shining! It is not an illusion, I am not dreaming, I am not imagining it…….It is real!

Is that a smile I see on your face
Is that a rose you hold in your hand
Are they tears or dew
That fall to the ground

Is that a bird
I hear cheeping
A young that needs feeding
Before finding its wings
And leaving

Is that mint that you smell
Tangy and tart
Cut off at its best
Floating in your glass

Is that your cat
Laying so still
Catching the sun
Dreaming of meals

Is that the sun
Going down very still
Leaving us now
Come back soon

We need you still

DAMAGED GOODS

First of all sorry I did not post last night but I had a bit of a mishap! My daughters thought it was very amusing when I rang them.

My next door neighbour had taken in a parcel for me so early evening I went outside and stood on a little plastic stool to peer over the fence to see if she was in before I walked round there. As I stood up the plastic cracked and snapped and my foot went through the stool, so when I stood on other foot as I was hopping round the patio trying to pull my foot out of the stool, it was stuck so still balancing on one leg I had to snap some more of the plastic off so I could get my foot out!

Badly scratched and cut leg later, I went to bed as it was stinging so much and felt sorry for myself.

The day had started of very good as it was the last Creative Writing so we joined the other group and presented some of our stories and poems to each other. Looking forward to it starting again in October.

Then met the girls for lunch, what a laugh we had and visited a new restaurant called Blooms in Folkestone. How lovely to have such brilliant service and excellent food in surroundings so pleasant. We are all looking forward to going there again.

They even do cocktails also a lovely sitting area outside in the sun, when it appears lol.

It will be nice to go there in the winter as they had a little lounge area with nice comfy seats.
So a very good lunch was had by us all.

Today I started a new story writing about 2,000 words also did the planning and characters. I am finding it hard to not put too much about people when I base a little bit of the story on an event that happened. Especially as it was so funny so don’t really want to change the character that much.
Leg is feeling better today and does not look as bad. Never stand on old plastic furniture that has been left outside is the moral of that story. x

SOFA ARRIVED

What a day, I had forgotten what an upheaval it was to get a new sofa. The hallway had to be emptied, had to arrange for old sofa to go. Move everything out of the way so new sofa and chair could fit in. Then clean and dust all the places you cannot normally get to, how do they get so mucky? At last by early evening I had finished but I did clean everywhere and it all looks great.

Creative writing tomorrow so more poems, I do prefer the writing but it is still interesting. We had to think of words that we liked and as it was sunny last week I picked these:
Flowers, home, fun, smell, fairy lights, herbs, fairies, peace, feel, book, writing, wine and touch.
So then we had to make a poem from these words, this is what I came up with.

GARDENS

Twinkling fairy lights
Flowers that shine
The fairies are out tonight
You can smell the wine
Glowing in the light
I touch the lavender
The smell is divine
Peace is at home
