MY STATS

img_4884

Everything goes in trends and I have heard a lot of people talk about Instagram and Pinterest and how to get more followers. I am not really sure how you do that on Instagram but Pinterest you can make group boards and build up your followers that way. I have not started to do that anywhere but I have got an extra 200 followers on each one this month, so that’s all good. My Facebook and Bloglovin increases a bit every month so I am happy. Not sure what is going on with Twitter only 5 new followers but I do find Twitter hard as you have to be on it a lot, I did try Buffer to do posts but you have to keep giving it an extra post.

My main aim is to increase my blog followers a lot and increase my DA. I sat all last night developing a newsletter on mailchimp but then could not connect it to my blog as I would like to get more of a following through email etc and do giveaways every month from a newsletter.

I have started affiliation with a company and some competitions so it is all going ok. I am planning an author spotlight once a month with a giveaway for one of their books, I am looking forward to that but I have to get this mailchimp sorted.

Hope your month is going well and have a great weekend.

MAY 2018 – SO MUCH NEWS!

WEATHER

Tuesday 1st May, what a change in the weather, we had rain for over 12 hours yesterday with flooding, trees down, lost electricity, people being swept off piers by huge waves and even beach huts ending up in the sea! Today the sun is shining, a blue sky temperature up a few degrees and they predict a hot bank holiday weekend, hope I have not spoken too soon! img_1238

BIRTHDAYS

I have two birthdays at the weekend, Alfie will be 10 and Izzy 15 It only seems like yesterday that Alfie was born, I need to make the most of him coming to stay as they get to about 14 then hobbies, school and friends take precedent over spending a weekend with your Nan.

CAMPER NEWS

I may take Peaches (the cat) out in the camper one day as I have got her such a cool playpen type thing for her to go outside.

I cannot wait to see what she thinks about that, it folds up really small and for £14.99 I was very pleased, well done Amazon.

We have two bank holiday Mondays this month so that’s great for some workers as they get a long weekend. Also its half term towards the end and that will mean a week away in the camper with family and friends. Really looking forward to that, I do enjoy it when you get everything set up and stay a few days so you can really relax and enjoy everything. I have got a solar charger for my phone so will be trying that out and I want to see how long the leisure battery lasts when using things normally, I may invest in solar panels on roof if needed and when I have saved for them.

BOOKS

I have two book reviews coming out this week then May and June are busy with books so ‘do not disturb as reading’ will be applied a lot. At the moment I am reading The wisdom of Sally red shoes by Ruth Hogan, who wrote the best seller The keeper of lost things, last year. This was a review copy from Netgalley, I am about half way through but will tell you more in the review on publishing day the 3rd May. I am actually having to turn books down at the moment, just so many good ones plus the other promotions and reviews that need doing.

COMPETITIONS

The Sarah & Duck show at The Leas Cliff Hall finished yesterday with the winner watching the show, blog post to come about that. Click on the link above to see the shows that are coming up, some exciting times for Folkestone.

The Old English Company are running a competition now that you can see here also the details are on my blog and website. So many goods on their website again a blog post will be coming about what I buy.fullsizeoutput_164b

FLOWERS

Version 2

My flowers from Prestige Flowers are looking great and filling the flat with gorgeous perfumes. It would be great if you could have a constant display of fresh flowers all the time, even in the summer when I get some from the garden I am toyed with do I leave them so the garden looks pretty or bring them indoors. I try to do both and plant more cut flower types every year.IMG_1462

WEBSITES

So many changes coming up for sites to adhere to, I have just up-dated mine so the SSL encryption is enabled, this means that the ‘s’ has been added to the address as in https://karensworld-writer.co.uk so my site is secure. Soon Google will put up a message saying the site is not secure when you click on it if you have not got this.

https://blog.karensworld-writer.co.uk

Also the new data laws are changing, you are probably experiencing lots of emails where sites are up-dating their policies. I will be doing this as well in the coming weeks.

MY WORLD

As I am running competitions now there will be a newsletter in the coming weeks and I plan to do Author Question Time ( If any authors want to be involved then let me know here.) and giveaways, wow I hear you say. Now I really don’t want you to miss any of this so the best way is to follow me, it’s really easy just click here and fill in your email address in the box.fullsizeoutput_1667

You will then get ALL the news and gossip without missing anything. We all know Facebook is changing so you will NOT see all my posts if you follow on there or any other social media platforms. It would be great to get to know all you followers as that is what keeps me going. You can also follow me at my website here and fill in your email address at the bottom of every page as it is all the same, there are also some different pages all about My World.

Before you ask about the Food Reviews, yes I am still doing those as they are so popular with you and I have a few new places that I will be visiting in Folkestone in the next weeks and letting you know all about them.

So what do you think?

You can comment on any post, in my guest book on website or social media or email me at karensworld.writer@yahoo.com

Enjoy May everyone

BLOGGING

img_1181As many of you know I enjoy blogging for many reasons, it gives me an outlet for when I am stressed or don’t feel too good. I spend most of my time indoors on my own which is ok as I then get to do things my own way and at my own pace depending how I am feeling that day.

I have been doing some product reviews this year which has been really good and a bit different to all the book reviews I do, I am still doing those in fact I have read even more this year so far. I think books are getting better and better and raising the bar a lot which I guess is good but I really like to promote the new authors as well.

I have looked into the taking of photos a bit more and am really loving the flat lay type of pictures like this.

IMG_5715

This was my first attempt, simple but I think it captures what I was aiming for, a good bottle of wine for two. I have now compiled a list of things I need for these shots, like ribbon, lights (I have these) small china trinkets, wallpaper samples, artificial flowers, tiles, feathers, cactus’ so next time I go out I will be looking for these bits to aid my photography, I even have a nice wooden crate for these things to go in….I need to paint it though, roll on Spring. The other thing I need to learn how to do and it is probably very simple, is putting lots of things on a page on their own, like this.

They seem to always have a white background but how do you get rid of the back ground so you just have the item?

I think I will get one of the round reflectors of light as they are very reasonable on Ebay.

A lot of bloggers use the Olympus pen camera but when I looked for one there are so many different models I wasn’t sure where to start. It would be good to be able to upload a photo to my blog straight away.

So it is onwards and upwards with my blog, I will be doing a new web page next month, I am looking for a design I like at the moment. I will stay with WordPress as I think they are very good. Is there anyone in Kent that uses WordPress as I have a couple of queries please?

If you have any product reviews then please get in touch. K

NOVEMBER 2017

The evenings are getting darker but I do like pulling the curtains and lighting my candles, makes me feel all cosy and warm.  I think that is about the only thing I like about winter as the cold makes my joints hurt so much.  At least if it snows this year I don’t have to go out in it as I have my shopping delivered now and I have just seen that you can have your prescriptions delivered by royal mail.

The gardens always look so bare but I will try to get some winter pansy again as they grew very well last year. I think my frogs are all hibernating as not seen them for the last couple of weeks.

Have you started christmas shopping yet?  I have got a few bits and as soon as I get some bags I will start wrapping as that is the part I don’t really like, there is never a good position for doing this and I always get back ache. Most of the grandchildren would like money so they can go to the sales in the new year so that’s easy.  I have written my list but santa never asks for it 😦

Time to do some writing now for NaNoWriMo, have a super day everyone.

NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH STARTS TOMORROW!

866290776564ae816ab6e636821b1271

It has certainly come round very quick as tomorrow is the 1st November so all your planning and resources should all be complete ready to go in the morning.  I have just one more read through of what I have written so far to do this evening then print it of and I will be ready.

How are you doing and who is participating this year?

I really hope I can get both my books finished as really want to start a new project in the new year.  I am also going to take a picture a day that has a meaning to myself, starting in January.  Very organised I hear you say, yes that bit comes easy it’s the keeping it up I have trouble with but new year new start and I will try my best.

I’m not sure what happened this year but since we put the clocks back my body clock has been all over the place, I was eating breakfast at 7.30am today!  I have written two book reviews on all social media, read emails, Facebook, Twitter and everything else I belong to and it is only 10.30 also writing this.  I have to decide which book to read next so that is my next job after a coffee.

What are you doing today?

THE MISSING GIRLS BY CAROL WYER – BOOK REVIEW

fullsizeoutput_f8e

Carol Wyer’s books just get better and better and this series about DI Robyn Carter is excellent.  How many girls need to go missing and why are there not any clues, no one is a high suspect and your clever if you worked this one out as I was shocked towards the end about what was happening.  I could not read it fast enough and it really makes you turn the pages.

DI Robyn Carter is a great character and I am really looking forward to the next book in this series which I believe is due later this year.  As Carter goes on a drug bust they end up with nothing to do with drugs but a body in a trunk which starts of this tale of terror. This is highly recommended and goes in my top 5 books of this year.

Thank you to Netgalley for sending this book for an honest review.
